She also frequently disguises herself as a man. Marian is one of the best archers in the book which she shows by fighting with the men and by hunting with the men. And by no means is she a typical damsel in distress commonly seen in medieval stories.
Marian doesn’t accept her father’s attempt at controlling her: her fate, who she marries, where she goes, etc. One of the best characters in the novel is Marian. The characters are, for the most part, all pretty one-dimensional (especially the villains). I won’t say that Robin is 100% the good guy since he supports a King who made a law that no one can hunt deer, but he is much better than the obviously cruel, tyrannical villains.
